Who am I?

  • A research historian who loves both national and local British history
  • I have published several local history books
  • I have a special interest in British Military history
  • I spend a large portion of my life in the 18th and 19th centuries
  • I have a large archive of C18th & C19th documents and books
  • I have a large collection of postcards recording places all over the UK. Almost all date from the Victorian and Edwardian periods, with some from the 1920s & 30s
  • I’m a keen photographer – hence calling my site ‘Shooting the Past
  • I love taking ‘Then and Now‘ photographs
  • I’m a voracious reader
  • I’m addicted to historical romance
  • I love dogs, especially my dogs, & believe there are no bad dogs, only bad owners
  • Rescue is my favourite breed
  • I spend so much time in dark places reading dusty manuscripts, journals, and all kinds of other records, that I rarely see daylight and am subsequently rather pale…
  • Maybe I am an archive vampire?
